  1. Community strength

The graduate should feel a sense of belonging to the community. As the community can influence them, they should also recognize that their individual actions, whether good or bad, will influence the community as well. This ability for an individual to take action knowing, understanding and caring that it will effect many others will provide future success in all relationships; family, community and business.

  2. Leadership Skills

The grads of 2030 will need to receive a more systematic, intentional approach to leadership skills development. This could include some introductory coverage on planning/project management, communications, collaboration, and constructive approaches to conflict.

  3. Patience

Crescent graduates will need to know how to be patient with themselves and with others. A graduate who learns patience will be able to give himself the time to learn, to accept and deal with setbacks and to work towards solutions.

  7. Being able to dynamically build and work with diverse teams.

Amount of data and information is growing in multiples everyday and informations silos are global. The boys need the skills to reachout and connect to people with diverse ethnic, social, educational backgrounds to build and work with teams. Being able to relate to "different people" without prejudice, and understanding the value of different cultures and way of thinking is crucial. Canada's defacto "canadian experience" bias would be the biggest obstacle the boys need to overcome in order create a well connected and happy society they would crave for.

  8. Serving the Community

I hope that in 2030 the grads have an even greater orientation towards being of service to both local and broader communities. The leadership skills that they acquire at Crescent should be put to use to help others. The school can both cultivate the skills necessary for this, and also the attitude that this is desirable, and a responsibility.

Always do the right thing. Always do your best. Education should foster this, as well as a sense of curiosity and a mindset that we are students for life.

  11. In one word: Resilience. The ability to make it through tough times.

Spirituality: The search for meaning in life; the human experience. Why are we here? What lies beyond the visible. How does our faith in a Greater Purpose for our existence strengthen our ability to withstand tough times?

  12. Intellectually Curious, Creative and Strong Academically.

Competition for spots in good University programs will be even higher in 2030. Globalization and technology advances in areas such as artificial intelligence and robotics will make it even more challenging to find a productive and enjoyable place in the economy. Strong math and communications skills will be particularly important. Boys graduating in 2030 will need good analytic skills and an ability to apply this knowledge creatively.

  14. 90 Portraits for 90 Grads

If there are 90 Grads of 2030 then Crescent needs to have 90 Portraits available to serve their individual needs. Some may need scholastic support, some may need a boost in character. You are not a factory starting with a sample and turning it into a product. You are given a boy with his own certain set of circumstances. And you are tasked with sending him out into the 2030 world as a productive, happy member of society. Be what your Grads need. Don't make the Grads be what you need.

  15. Ability to Formulate and Communicate a Logical Solution

Many boys have the ability to come up with a creative solution in their head, but lack ability to communicate this idea quickly and concisely. Graduates need to be able to logically sort through the web of thoughts pertaining to the solution to form a step by step solution on their own. The solution must be sound and be "bullet proofed" in terms of risks and contingencies.

  16. Personal Growth

Our boys must have the mindset that they need to try to be better tomorrow than they were today. They cannot rest on their laurels. Celebration is good but improvement is the pinnacle. Less flattering back patting and more reflection on today and how tomorrow will be even better. It is important in their relationships, their academics, their co-curriculars and ultimately in their careers and lives. They must never believe that they have given all that they can give to our school, our community, and most importantly to themselves.

  18. Resiliency.

The need exists for us to prepare our sons for the tough roads that lie ahead. We should strive to teach our boys coping mechanisms and strategies for when they fail. And, together, we should be allowing them the opportunity to fail now such that when life gets tough they are prepared. Effectively dealing with life stresses is an essential aspect of developing one's character.

  20. A strong EQ (Emotional Quotient), determination and optimism

EQ means having self awareness AND having the ability to understand the feelings of others (empathy). Good EQ is usually highly correlated to strong interpersonal skills. Determination and optimism see you through the good times and the bad.
